MEPs re-allocate crisis funds to energy efficiency
In April 2009 it was agreed on by the European Parliament (EP) that 3.98 billion euros from the EU's
recovery package should be devoted to energy projects, such as carbon capture and storage demonstration plants and offshore wind farms. It has now been estimated that around
115 million euros of these funds will not be committed, and on 2 September 2010 the EP voted to use this money to support
regional and local projects in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Projects eligible for the funds under the plan will need to have a rapid and significant impact on economic recovery, boost energy security and cut GHG emissions.
